Wifi zone!

Sometimes it can be a pain in the neck finding a free wireless open signal in Boca Chica. I've found that if you stand in front of this spot with your little wireless device you can check your email or do whatever you like. Other places have wifi but they require passwords. Please let me know of any other tips.

The sunny umbrellas

I still can't used to umbrellas on sunny days. The world seems upside down sometimes. We use them in the rain where I come from.

More street art

Once again, one of my favourite spots in town, an art gallery right on Duarte. When the sun hits these beautiful colours it becomes a splendid display of explosive colouring. Rock on street art Boca Chica!

Tourist shops

I love these shops! They're so colourful and full of things. Too bad I don't need anything in there.
I love the art on the street. Literally on the street! I don't much look at them walking by though. One day I'll stop and buy.

The batmobile!

I am totally saving up for one of these babies! I got a lift in one recently. We bombed around the forest. It's a crazy time.

The fences!

These beautiful buildings are everywhere but I can never get used to the fences around them.

Moto conchos !

The taxi industry is to Boca Chica what clothing was to New York City in the 50s. Every young man of talent is attracted to their noble steeds.

The world in Boca Chica!

The globe! Whoever put this up has some global ambitions.

The disco!

Every night Duarte closes to traffic and the bars and restaurants put out the plastic tables and chairs. People eat and eventually the restaurants closes and those who want to continue partying go to this disco. I'm not sure what it's called. It can get pretty sweaty inside. I'll try to find some pictures of the nightclub action later.

Boca Chica and the main strip

Duarta is the main strip of Boca Chica, as everybody probably already knows. For some reason just about every town in the Dominican Republic has a main drag called Duarte. What I find striking is the amazing contrast between daytime Duarta and nighttime Duarte. It's pretty civilized in the day. Bacchanalia starts around 7 or 8 pm. It's all in good fun though.

Tropical Garden Hotel

I always like Luigi of the Tropical Garden and his lovely younger wife Michaela, but I see that he no longer runs the hotel. His wife and a Frenchman from France are there instead. It's still a nice hotel but I never could figure out what happened to Luigi.

The hill!

I stay on the other side of the highway in Boca Chica. It's cheap and just as good as living down the hill. I enjoy spending time with the locals. But I do get tired of walking this hill every day!

Tropical dogs

Plus je vois l'homme,
plus j'aimie mon chien

--- Pascal ---

Stray dogs aren't too common where I live and when I see these things on the streets of Boca Chica it leaves me with mixed feelings. I admire their freedom. But I also find it unhygienic. It makes me think of Trujillo getting the stick from Batista at Hotel Hamaca after Fidel's coup.

Restaurants in Boca Chica

I have eaten at all these places many times on Duarte. I have enjoyed local home cooking much more however. I have been invited into the homes of some of the people in town. My favourite has been Haitian food. I wish there was a Haitian restaurant in town.

Boca Chica Dominican Republic

Hi, I want to tell you about one of my favourite towns. It's called Boca Chica. It's is on a beach just outside of Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. The south side of the island is a little different from the north side, it is hotter and has more reliable  weather. This photo shows a thing they have in the square near the beach. This square is at the end of the main strip, which is called Duarte. It fills up with terraces and discos at night with much action and nightlife which can get pretty crazy. I am going to write about some of my favourite things in this town but I will not only discuss the tourist element but the real life element too. Please leave a comment or write me if you have photos, suggestions, feedback or ideas. My email is bocachicadr@gmail.com. I am just a person, not part of a government or chamber of commerce or anything so I will tell you straight. Hope you enjoy this site!
